Well it's been an amazing Labour Day weekend for us!
Chirst booked us a 2 night stay on Waiheke Island. We had talked about getting married (and someone had dropped a few hints) and I decided that it would be a perfect time to pop the question.
First I had to get passed the most nerve racking part which was calling Chirstys dad David to ask for his blessing. I was pretty nervous but the call went well and he seemed genuinely happy to hear the news. After asking him to not let Christ know I moved on with my plans. I already knew that Chirst wanted to use a ring given to her from her grandmother as her engagement ring however the ring needed repairs and it lived in her parents safe so I needed a ring to actually ask. I secured one on the way home from Manukau Mall and was ready to go.
The trip over to Waiheke was nice (apart of a running diatribe on how hard life is from the girl behind us) and we arrived, collected the rental car and found our accomodation smoothly. We stayed at a place called Punga Lodge and the host was a lovely lady called Dyan who welcomed us with a delicious home made afternoon tea that she makes and puts on for her guests everyday. We went for a walk to a burger place called 2 Fat Buns we had heard about and eat by the beach. Stuffed with deliciousness we walked back to the motel and had some sleep.
The next morning we went on an adventure to see the island. There were some quite rough unsealed roads and we were glad we'd gone for the slightly larger car which handled things quite well. We ended up around on Man O War bay which was very pretty. There was a winery there too but I hadn't prebooked a tasting so we didn't endulge. After making our way back we stopped at Onetani Bay and a restaurant on the beach called Charlie Farleys for some excellent fish n chips.
That night we went to Vino Vino for dinner. It was a little chilly outside but they gave us fluffy blankets and the food was delicious. We tried to tip on the way out but they mistyped it and lost themselves $10 but we still had a marvellous time. I was a little nervous on the way home as I was about to ask Chirsty to marry me. It didn't quite go as planned as I got a little nervous and Chirst was distracted by trying to get cuddles from the motels cat but I asked and most importantly she said yes!! I'm so stoked that this amazing woman wants to spend the rest of her life with me. We are now looking at planning nd couldn't be happier.
The next morning we went to Cable Bay Vineyards for a tour and tasting. Our host Tim was and interesting chap but we got on really well and enjoyed the tour. Their wines were fantastic. I am not usually a Sauvignon Blanc fan at all but theirs was very good and no where near as acidic as I usually find them. The Rose was deleicious and the Syrah was a peppery triumph. I ended up buying a bottle of all three.
Tim had mentioned pizza and we were hungary so we headed back into town to go to a little Italian place called Fenice which was amazing. We had a bean and goats cheese bruschetta which was delicious and a spinach and prosciutto pizza which may have been the best pizza I have ever had.
Full and happy we made our way back to the ferry and home to Auckland. We went out for dinner that night with Chirsts parents who wanted to celebrate with us which was a lovely way to end the weekend.
